I've met deer on the landing just below that corner, and just above the parking lot, but never that far up the road. The buggers sure look big when you come on to them in the dark on a bike.
The most common critter I've encountered on the top portion of the road is a porcupine.
This is a cyclist walking her bike through the nasty ice-covered road yesterday. I always expect to see some wildlife in the morning, but haven't since I've been riding this route in the last 4 months.
The perched water tables icing the road in that gully are why I keep my studded tires on until mid to late April. The sound is annoying on dry road, but I descend that road in the dark and prefer to stay upright.
